Ingredients
- 1 ea Sweet Onion
- 1 cup Buttermilk Can sub regular milk w/ 1 tbs of lemon juice
- 1/2 cup Flour
- 3 tbs Corn Starch
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Pepper
- 1 ea Vegetable Oil Or other oil for frying
Instructions
- Gather your ingredients. Slice the onion into tanglers of your desired length and thickness.
- Place the onion in a sealed bag with the buttermilk for 15 to 20 minutes. Mix the remaining dry ingredients together in a bowl.
- Drain the buttermilk from the onions. Combine the onions and the mixed dry ingredients and toss (you can do this in the sealed bag, a sealed container, or by hand if you wish).
- Heat the oil in a frying pan or pot. Be careful to not burn yourself or start a fire!
- Place the onions in the oil until a golden brown.
- Remove from oil, dry excess oil off with paper towel. Enjoy!
Notes
- These onion tanglers work as a great side dish. Dip them in some spicy ranch for a real treat! They also work great as an enhancer or accompaniment to other foods. Try out my recipe for Bacon Wrapped Cheese Dog topped with these onions!
- Not much scares me more than frying oil on a gas stove. Be careful! Have a plan to deal with any fire or flare-up.
